Micron Raises U.S. Investment to More Than $250 Billion, Adds $3 Billion to Chip Supply Chain
Micron raised its planned investment in United States manufacturing to more than $250 billion through 2035, expanding a previously announced figure of about $200 billion to meet surging demand for artificial intelligence memory chips. The semiconductor maker also said it will allocate up to $3 billion to bolster the domestic chip supply chain, including a $500 million financial commitment to GlobalWafers to fund an expansion of a silicon wafer plant in Sherman, Texas.
The company broke ground at its new fabrication site in Clay, New York, starting vertical construction more than a quarter ahead of schedule. The campus will feature up to four fabs, aiming to produce 40% of the company’s total DRAM output while creating 9,000 direct Micron jobs and more than 50,000 total positions in New York. Combined with facilities in Idaho and Virginia, the company projects the U.S. sites will generate over 90,000 jobs.
