Anthropic Launches Claude Science and Plans to Develop Drugs for Neglected Diseases
Anthropic unveiled Claude Science at its AI for Science event and announced plans to develop treatments for neglected diseases, marking a strategic shift from licensing AI tools to pharmaceutical companies toward developing drugs in-house. The software provides a desktop workbench that integrates more than 60 scientific databases and runs on Anthropic’s Claude models, such as Opus 4.8.
The beta application, available on macOS and Linux for Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers, allows researchers to automate workflows, manage computing environments, and link visual outputs to their source code. The announcement aligns Anthropic with rivals like OpenAI, which has previously outlined long-term ambitions for autonomous AI systems to accelerate drug discovery.
