Nearly 1 Million Investors Lose $3.81 Billion Trading TRUMP Memecoin
Nearly 989,000 investors purchasing the TRUMP memecoin have incurred losses totaling $3.81 billion through the end of June 2026, according to a New York Times report citing blockchain analytics data from Nansen. The memecoin, which launched in January, has fallen 97% from its peak of $75.35 to $1.76. Approximately two-thirds of all buyers experienced net losses, while an estimated $4 billion in profits was captured by a small group of early traders and sophisticated investors.
The disclosure of widespread retail losses follows President Donald Trump's annual financial disclosure, which revealed $1.4 billion in crypto-related earnings for 2025. This figure includes $636 million from licensing fees tied to the memecoin and $799 million in profits from World Liberty Financial, the crypto startup co-founded by his sons. In comments to CNBC on Thursday, Trump stated there was "nothing illegal" about the family's crypto earnings, added that he did not closely monitor the business, and noted his children manage the ventures.
