Supreme Court Expands Presidential Firing Power But Blocks Fed Governor Lisa Cook

The FTC decision concluded that for-cause removal protections for commissioners violate the Constitution's separation of powers, a shift that places dozens of regulatory agencies under greater White House control. Regarding Cook, the court deferred to the Federal Reserve's longstanding historical independence from direct presidential control. Cook thanked the justices, stating the ruling protects the institution from political intimidation. Trump celebrated the expansion of executive authority over the FTC and implied it extends to other watchdogs, labeling the decision a historic win on social media and vowing to proceed with administrative action to replace Cook, whom he has long accused of wrongdoing.
