Bitcoin Exchange Deposits Surge to 49,000 BTC as ETFs Close First Negative Half
On-chain data from CryptoQuant shows that Bitcoin exchange deposits surged to nearly 49,000 BTC on June 30, a level rarely seen this year that typically signals incoming volatility. The spike was driven largely by large holders, with the average deposit size climbing to 2 BTC. Ethereum exchange inflows also exceeded 1.25 million ETH, as the broader cryptocurrency sector grappled with Bitcoin testing critical support near $60,000.
The warning coincides with sustained redemptions from U.S. spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds. Although spot Bitcoin ETFs recovered on July 2 with $222 million in inflows—led by Fidelity's ETF—they still closed the first half of 2026 with $5.4 billion in net outflows, marking their first negative six-month period since launching in January 2024. BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust alone accounted for 35,980 BTC, or approximately $2.24 billion, in withdrawals over a recent 10-day stretch.
