US Lifts Export Controls on Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
The US Department of Commerce lifted export controls on Anthropic Inc.'s Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, ending a roughly 2½-week suspension of the AI systems. The company received official notice late Monday and announced that it will begin restoring global user access early Wednesday.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said his department worked closely with Anthropic to analyze the models and approve their return, noting the process aimed to strengthen alignment with US government priorities. The clearance follows an agreement for the developer to implement enhanced security safeguards and adopt clearer protocols for future releases, establishing a review framework as other labs prepare to submit next-generation AI models for oversight.
