Odyssey Raises $310 Million at $1.45 Billion Valuation for AI Video Game Engine
Odyssey, an artificial intelligence lab based in Palo Alto, showcased its Agora-1 world model after securing $310 million in funding. The round closed earlier this month at a $1.45 billion valuation and was led by Amazon and AMD Ventures.
Agora-1 builds interactive video game environments by learning physics and multiplayer dynamics from data instead of relying on hardcoded programming rules. In a recent demonstration, the model generated a real-time multiplayer match for the classic shooter GoldenEye. Unlike standard video generators that produce fixed clips, Agora-1 predicts how scenes evolve based on player inputs, allowing up to four users to interact with the simulation simultaneously.
The Palo Alto AI lab said world models represent its core product category, which aims to simulate physical cause and effect rather than generating static video or text. Odyssey believes the technology is approaching a "GPT-3 moment," mirroring the inflection point that transformed language models from academic experiments into commercially viable tools.
