Russia buys gasoline from India as drone strikes worsen fuel shortages

businessenergy-marketsoilworldrussiapoliticswar 50 posts · 22 accounts

Russia has begun importing gasoline from India to address a worsening domestic fuel shortage, with at least 60,000 metric tons shipped so far. Kyrgyzstan has also requested fuel assistance from neighboring countries as supply disruptions originating in Russia spill across its borders. The export requests follow a Ukrainian drone attack on the Nizhny Novgorod region that killed one person and damaged the NORSI oil refinery, one of the country's largest processing facilities.

The Kremlin admitted to supply strains this week after months of downplaying shortages that have triggered rationing and lengthy queues at fueling stations across dozens of regions. Market tracking indicates drone strikes have knocked out roughly a third of Russia's refining capacity, prompting the government to consider lowering fuel quality standards and halting diesel exports. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak stated the domestic market remains supplied, but analysts estimate Moscow plans to import up to 400,000 metric tons monthly to cover the production gap, drawing from India and Belarus.
