Valar Atomics Inc., a California-based nuclear startup, generated electricity from an advanced reactor to power an Nvidia Corp. artificial intelligence chip on Tuesday. The power was generated at the Ward 250 site, marking the first time a next-generation nuclear reactor has produced electricity to run an AI chip in the United States.

The event, dubbed WATTS NEXT and co-presented with Nvidia, was streamed live from the facility. Valar Atomics, founded in 2024, has spent the past two years preparing for the demonstration. According to Bloomberg, the startup generated only a trickle of electricity during the test, which serves as an initial technical milestone ahead of scaled-up deployments for data centers.

A new speed to abundant, cheap nuclear energy and safety all before @valaratomics’s 3rd birthday as a company. Have been thankful to be part of the ride for the last two years.
