Trump Defends $1.4 Billion Crypto Earnings After Financial Disclosures
President Donald Trump defended a $1.4 billion windfall from cryptocurrency businesses after annual financial disclosures revealed that digital assets and related ventures accounted for nearly two-thirds of his personal income in 2025. During a CNBC interview on Thursday, Trump stated he was unaware of the specific filings and said his family’s business dealings are primarily run by his children.
The disclosures showed Trump earned at least $588 million from token sales tied to World Liberty Financial, a crypto firm co-founded by his sons, and approximately $636 million in royalties from licensing a meme coin called Celebration Coins. The reports also indicated holdings of more than $100 million in Bitcoin and Ethereum. When questioned on CNBC about the scale of his earnings while overseeing administration policy, Trump said there was "nothing illegal" about the profits. He also defended the sector's trajectory, adding, "Crypto is a BIG deal. We’re number one in crypto."
