Anthropic accuses Alibaba of illicitly accessing Claude AI model
Anthropic accused Chinese technology giant Alibaba of illicitly accessing its Claude AI model through a large-scale campaign involving thousands of fraudulent accounts, according to a letter sent to U.S. senators and the White House on Wednesday.
The California-based AI safety firm alleged that operators linked to Alibaba’s Qwen lab generated nearly 28.8 million exchanges with Claude between April and June. Anthropic stated the campaign specifically targeted Claude’s software engineering and agentic reasoning capabilities, resembling past access attempts by Chinese developers that the company flagged earlier this year. Alibaba had no immediate comment on the allegations.
