Bitcoin Falls 53% From Peak and Drops Below $60,000

cryptocrypto-marketsbusinessstocks 64 posts · 38 accounts

Bitcoin fell below $60,000 during intraday trading, dropping approximately 5% to around $59,000. The selloff pushes the cryptocurrency down 53% from its peak reached in October 2025, marking its lowest level since September 2024. The decline wiped out roughly $68 billion from its market capitalization and triggered over $480 million in liquidations across leveraged long positions. The total cryptocurrency market capitalization also fell below $2.2 trillion as risk aversion intensified across digital assets.

The downturn extends to Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, which saw its publicly traded shares drop below $100 for the first time since March 2024. The company, which holds 847,363 BTC, fell more than 81% from its all-time high, trading at valuations not seen since early 2024. Its Bitcoin-backed preferred share class, STRC, hit a new all-time low of $80.50. Because Strategy acquired its holdings at an average cost of approximately $75,651 per coin, the cryptocurrency's price slide translates to over $11 billion in unrealized losses. The sharp depreciation has reignited concerns about pressure on the company's capital structure and potential forced sales to meet dividend obligations.
