US Clears Anthropic to Restore Claude Mythos 5 Access for Trusted Organizations
The Commerce Department has allowed Anthropic to restore access to Claude Mythos 5, its most advanced cybersecurity artificial intelligence model, for more than 100 approved U.S. organizations. In a letter sent Friday to Anthropic’s chief compute officer Tom Brown, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick stated that the Trump administration determined appropriate safeguards were in place to permit the model’s redeployment to trusted partners. The decision partially lifts an export restriction the Commerce Department abruptly imposed on June 12 over national security concerns.
The Trump administration is also close to reaching a deal that would fully restore access to Claude Fable 5, Anthropic’s other flagship model, according to Axios. Insiders expect the clearance process to conclude and the export block to be lifted as early as this week, ending roughly 15 days of restricted access for both models. The revised rules for Mythos 5 also waive export license requirements for vetted foreign nationals employed by the approved organizations and for Anthropic’s own international staff.
