Amazon Raises Investment in India to $48 Billion, Adding $13 Billion for AI and Cloud
Amazon said it will invest $48 billion in India over the next five years, raising its previous capital commitment by $13 billion. The additional funding will be directed primarily toward Amazon Web Services and artificial intelligence infrastructure, bringing the company’s AI and cloud spending in the country to over $21 billion. The announcement followed a meeting between Amazon CEO Andy Jassy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Amazon confirming new data center and cloud facility construction in Mumbai and Hyderabad.
The expanded $48 billion investment covers Amazon’s broader e-commerce operations, seller ecosystems, and enterprise customer base in the region. Jassy stated that Amazon plans to support 3.8 million jobs and generate $80 billion in e-commerce exports by 2030. The company also aims to integrate AI tools into the workflows of 15 million small businesses and 4 million government school students as it deepens its expansion in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital markets.
