Chinese State Refiners Consider Resuming Iranian Oil Imports
Chinese state-owned refiners are weighing purchases of Iranian crude again, according to sources, a possible next step in Tehran's return to larger export markets after Washington temporarily eased sanctions on the country's oil trade.
The deliberations follow a U.S. general license issued on June 22 authorizing the production, delivery and sale of Iranian-origin crude, petrochemical products and petroleum products through Aug. 21, 2026. Earlier reports said refiners elsewhere in Asia had little room for additional Iranian barrels, leaving China as the main buyer under the waiver; the latest report did not specify which Chinese refiners could return or the size of any imports.
