Google Limits Meta's Gemini AI Use Over Compute Shortages

Google has placed limits on Meta's use of its Gemini artificial intelligence models after the social media giant requested more computing capacity than the cloud provider could supply, the Financial Times reported. According to three people familiar with the matter, Google informed Meta around March that it could not fulfill the full capacity purchase request for the frontier AI model hosting and inference service.

The capacity restrictions have reportedly disrupted and delayed several of Meta's internal AI development projects. The incident highlights the widespread scarcity of compute power and advanced accelerators across the technology sector, illustrating how hardware constraints are now actively shaping partnerships between the largest cloud operators.
