Microsoft Evaluates DeepSeek, Other Open Models for Copilot Cowork as It Shifts to Usage-Based Pricing
Microsoft is evaluating a broader slate of open models for Copilot Cowork, including DeepSeek and models such as GLM, MiniMax and Kimi, as it aims to make the product’s models interchangeable and separate the harness from the underlying systems. The company is also moving Copilot Cowork to usage-based pricing as it looks for lower-cost options for enterprise AI tasks.
Copilot Cowork, now generally available worldwide with multi-model support, lets organizations run long-running agents on complex, multi-step work using company knowledge. Charles Lamanna said some customers run hundreds of tasks a week, driving costs very high; Microsoft had not made a final decision on deploying DeepSeek, and smaller models could eventually handle some tasks locally.
