Apple, Marvell Said to Use TSMC’s A14 Chip Process in 2028

Apple and Marvell plan to use TSMC’s next-generation A14 process, which is set to ramp to mass production in 2028, according to a media report citing unnamed supply chain sources. Apple will design its A22 Pro chip on A14, while Marvell is already in talks with TSMC to use the node and has made prepayments, the report said.

The reported commitments would give TSMC anchor customers in high-end smartphone and AI data center chips. A14 is TSMC’s second-generation nanosheet (GAA) process and, compared with N2, is expected to boost performance by 10%-15% at the same power consumption, improve power efficiency by 25%-30% at the same performance level and increase logic density by more than 20%, the report said. It added that Apple’s A20 and A20 Pro would use N2, while the A21 would use N2P.
