G7 Leaders Discuss 'Trusted Partner' Access to Advanced US AI Models After Curbs on Anthropic
G7 leaders are discussing a plan to let selected 'trusted partners' access advanced AI models from US companies such as Anthropic, according to reports citing sources. The talks come days after the Trump administration kept export controls on Anthropic's Fable 5 and Mythos 5 in place, requiring government permission before foreign nationals can use the systems and prompting Anthropic to disable them for all customers.
The proposal would mark a possible shift from Washington's earlier refusal to grant allied carve-outs. Reports this week said the administration rejected a UK request for a carve-out for British nationals and companies and would not restore access for G7 countries, even as Anthropic and US officials continued to dispute whether a bypass of Fable's safeguards posed a serious security threat. No policy change has been announced.
