Foxconn Chairman Estimates Nvidia Vera Rubin 1-GW AI Data Center Cost at $47 Billion
Young Liu, chairman of Foxconn, the world's biggest AI server maker, said in a speech that a 1-gigawatt AI data center based on Nvidia's Vera Rubin would cost about $47 billion and include 3,557 server racks, or about $9.1 million each. He said the facility would have an annual electricity bill of about $1.3 billion, while hardware depreciation would run about six times higher than power costs.
Liu said the global data center market will reach $1.6 trillion by 2030 as compute capacity climbs to 174 gigawatts from 68 gigawatts in 2024. That would require another 106 gigawatts of electricity, or about 18 gigawatts of new power supply each year from 2025 through 2030, with demand coming from AI model builders, cloud service providers, governments and enterprises.
