Chipmaker CXMT's Planned Listing Could Give 7,000 Employees About $150,000 Each
Korean media reported that equity incentives at chipmaker CXMT could leave around 7,000 core employees, including engineers, with shares worth about RMB1 million ($150,000) each when the company completes its planned listing. The awards stem from large stock grants made in 2021 and 2023, and founder and chairman Zhu Yiming plans to distribute 50% of the shares he receives as a listing-related performance bonus to employees.
The shares are subject to lockups of three to 10 years, according to the report. Among the largest potential gains, director Wang Dan, who worked at Samsung Electronics from 2010 to 2018 before joining CXMT in 2019, and his spouse together hold about 7 million shares that could be worth roughly RMB200 million ($30 million) at listing. Industry sources cited in the report expect Korean engineers who joined CXMT with stock options also to benefit.
