South Korea Leveraged ETF Assets Rise to Nearly $40 Billion as ETF Market Hits Record $339 Billion

The total market cap of ETFs listed on the Korea Exchange rose to a record 514.4 trillion won ($339 billion), up more than 70% this year, while assets under management in South Korea-focused leveraged ETFs climbed to nearly $40 billion, also a record. Leveraged ETF assets are up about 600% since the start of the year and have tripled since March.

The figures highlight how quickly leverage use has expanded in South Korea's market. For comparison, total US leveraged ETF assets are about $180 billion even though the US stock market is worth roughly $76 trillion, versus about $4.3 trillion for South Korea.
