US Tells ASML One EUV Chipmaking Tool May Have Reached China Despite Export Curbs

techtech-policyworldchinapoliticsus-foreign-policy 22 posts · 17 accounts

US officials have told ASML that one of the company’s extreme ultraviolet lithography machines may have reached China, potentially violating export curbs. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick raised the concern with ASML executives, and senior administration officials said they had evidence the company was not acting in good faith.

ASML denied the allegation, saying it has never shipped an EUV machine, or EUV-specific components, to China and that no such systems have ever been sent to the country. The issue centers on equipment covered by restrictions meant to keep advanced chipmaking tools out of China.
