Iran Tankers Test US Naval Blockade as Sanctioned Supertanker Loads 2 Million Barrels of Crude

Iranian shipping appeared to test the U.S. naval blockade despite the interim U.S.-Iran memorandum, with tanker-tracking data showing a U.S.-sanctioned very large crude carrier crossing the blockade line while broadcasting a position outside it and loading 2 million barrels of Iranian crude. Iranian media separately reported that three oil tankers and two vessels carrying essential goods had passed through the blockade, while another report said an empty sanctioned tanker was moving toward the Gulf.

The movements suggest cargo traffic is probing the arrangement ahead of the planned June 19 formal signing of the memorandum. Washington said earlier that the blockade of Iranian ports remains in effect until the agreement is completed, and shipowners have stayed cautious: MarineTraffic data cited in market reporting showed 29 verified crossings through Hormuz from June 10 to June 14, versus about 150 a day before the conflict.
