ASML CEO Warns Europe Lags in AI Hardware, Citing US Demand for 80% of the World's Advanced Chips

The chief executive of ASML, whose equipment is used to make advanced chips, said Europe is "quite behind" in artificial intelligence hardware and that new manufacturing capacity will not close the gap without local demand. He put the US share of global advanced-chip purchases at 80%, versus almost none for Europe, and added that megafabs such as Tesla's TeraFab may require capacity measured in millions of wafers a month.

He argued Europe should first build AI applications, then products and chip design, and only afterward expand semiconductor fabrication plants. He tied that argument to the sovereignty debate in Brussels over US export controls on AI models, where he said policymakers have focused on factories before creating a market for the chips.

The CEO of ASML said Europe is "quite behind" in the AI race. This is not a politician. This is the man who controls the only machines on earth that can print advanced chips. Every semiconductor fab from TSMC to Samsung needs his approval t
