Anthropic, DeepMind CEOs Push U.S.-Led Coalition for Frontier Models as G7 Targets September Rules
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis used a closed-door Group of Seven meeting in France to urge leaders to form a U.S.-led coalition for frontier models, with Amodei proposing controlled allied access to advanced systems, AI chips and other critical components while excluding China from those supply chains. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman separately told leaders governments should set global standards for deploying artificial intelligence rather than cede control to the companies building it.
French President Emmanuel Macron said better regulation was needed to keep frontier models out of authoritarian hands and that the G7 would create a cooperation platform among democracies and announce new rules in September. The debate follows the Trump administration's decision to bar foreign nationals from Anthropic's Mythos 5 and Fable 5, a move that forced the company to disable the models for all users and intensified concern among allies about reliance on U.S. AI providers.
