Anthropic, DeepMind CEOs Call for U.S.-Led AI Coalition at G7 to Set Rules for Frontier Models

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Google DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis called for a U.S.-led coalition to set global AI rules and standards at a closed-door G7 meeting in France. Amodei said access to frontier models and key hardware, including chips and other critical components, should be structured to exclude China, while French President Emmanuel Macron said G7 leaders were discussing a joint cooperation platform for frontier models and stronger regulation.

The debate follows the Trump administration’s decision to bar foreign nationals from Anthropic’s Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models, which led the company to shut them off for all customers to comply and prompted Macron to convene talks on deploying advanced systems through so-called trusted partners. Amodei separately urged G7 leaders to resist splintering over AI, highlighting the tension between U.S. national-security controls and allied efforts to preserve shared access to frontier systems.
