Apple Extends Private Cloud Compute to Google Cloud Using Nvidia GPUs, Intel CPUs
Apple said the most demanding Apple Intelligence workloads will run on Google Cloud using Nvidia GPUs and Intel CPUs, extending its Private Cloud Compute framework to third-party data centers for the first time. The company said the setup will handle tasks including agentic tool-use and complex reasoning, adding backend detail to the Siri AI assistant and broader AI platform it unveiled at WWDC.
Apple said the Google Cloud implementation uses Nvidia Confidential Computing, Intel CPUs with TDX and Google’s Titan chip while maintaining its privacy and security protections. Earlier this week Apple said Siri AI was rebuilt with Apple Foundation models developed in deep collaboration with Google’s Gemini technology and will reach developers in English first, with a broader beta later this year; Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features won’t initially launch in the European Union or China because of regulatory issues.

@markgurmanPower On: Around early 2025, Apple’s top executives other than Tim Cook held a secret meeting to discuss just how behind it is in AI and chart the path forward. Tomorrow, we’ll see the results.
@markgurmanTim Cook has been intimately involved in Apple’s AI comeback and AI product direction since Apple Intelligence flopped and the new Siri was delayed. He’s never been this involved in product development and features as CEO.
@markgurmanApple’s coming AI announcements include major reversals, with executives as recently as last year shunning the idea of a chatbot and panning the idea of AI use in photography. Now both are coming.
@markgurmanThe Siri reboot spotlights three key storylines: Tim Cook’s final launch as CEO helping move Apple in the right direction; Craig Federighi becoming Apple’s AI leader; and Vision Pro creator Mike Rockwell fixing Apple’s biggest shortcoming.

@benthompsonIt's actually super important that the Siri demo was kind of slow, because it emphasized it was real. Would be even better if it were live, though.
@markgurmanThe gag here with this Siri demo is that Rockwell is showing use case after use case that should have worked for the last decade -- only for them to actually work this time. Huge win.
