Apple Extends Private Cloud Compute Beyond Its Data Centers to Google Cloud With Nvidia GPUs

Apple said it is extending Private Cloud Compute beyond its own data centers for the first time, collaborating with Google and Nvidia to run new Apple Intelligence workloads on Google Cloud. For the most demanding tasks, including agentic tool-use and complex reasoning, the company said the system will use Nvidia GPUs, alongside Intel CPUs with TDX and Google’s Titan chip, while maintaining Apple’s security and privacy protections.

The disclosure adds a key infrastructure detail to Apple’s WWDC unveiling of Siri AI and the broader Apple Intelligence overhaul. Apple had said those features rely on new Apple Foundation models built with technology behind Google’s Gemini family and run both on-device and in the cloud; it has now clarified that part of that cloud layer will operate in third-party Google Cloud facilities rather than only Apple-run infrastructure.

Power On: Around early 2025, Apple’s top executives other than Tim Cook held a secret meeting to discuss just how behind it is in AI and chart the path forward. Tomorrow, we’ll see the results.

@markgurman

Tim Cook has been intimately involved in Apple’s AI comeback and AI product direction since Apple Intelligence flopped and the new Siri was delayed. He’s never been this involved in product development and features as CEO.

@markgurman

Apple’s coming AI announcements include major reversals, with executives as recently as last year shunning the idea of a chatbot and panning the idea of AI use in photography. Now both are coming.

@markgurman

The Siri reboot spotlights three key storylines: Tim Cook’s final launch as CEO helping move Apple in the right direction; Craig Federighi becoming Apple’s AI leader; and Vision Pro creator Mike Rockwell fixing Apple’s biggest shortcoming.

It's actually super important that the Siri demo was kind of slow, because it emphasized it was real. Would be even better if it were live, though.

@markgurman

The gag here with this Siri demo is that Rockwell is showing use case after use case that should have worked for the last decade -- only for them to actually work this time. Huge win.
