Wright Says 7 Million BPD Leaves Gulf With US Military Help, No Iranian Crude Through Hormuz
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said Thursday that roughly 7 million barrels a day are leaving the Persian Gulf with U.S. military help, while no Iranian crude is getting out through the Strait of Hormuz. He said the U.S. would restore the flow of products through the strait “with or without Iran’s help” if a peace deal is not reached.
The remarks sharpen earlier administration descriptions of U.S. support for shipping through Hormuz. Trump said this week that a secret military mission had helped more than 200 commercial ships and over 100 million barrels of oil reach the open market, while Wright said at the time he was not aware of any U.S. operation taking oil out of Iran and described the effort as facilitating shipments through the chokepoint amid the recent U.S.-Iran clashes.
