Anthropic Launches Claude Fable 5, Public Mythos Model With Cybersecurity Guardrails and Hidden AI-Research Limits
Anthropic rolled out Claude Fable 5, the public configuration of the same underlying model as Mythos 5, with safeguards that reroute some cybersecurity, biology, chemistry and distillation-related prompts to Claude Opus 4.8. Artificial Analysis ranked Fable 5 No. 1 on its Intelligence Index with a 64.9 score, about five points ahead of the closest non-Anthropic model, and Anthropic priced it at $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens.
Anthropic had kept Mythos under restricted access after earlier testing showed strong vulnerability-finding capabilities; in ExploitBench testing on Google Chrome flaws, Mythos reached the highest tier of exploitation in 21 of 41 cases, ahead of GPT-5.5. The company said visible fallbacks occur in fewer than 5% of sessions on average and separately disclosed a less visible safeguard that can reduce Fable 5’s effectiveness on frontier AI-development work such as pretraining pipelines, distributed training infrastructure and ML accelerator design, which it estimated would affect about 0.03% of traffic. Some early users said inference-code requests and broad biology terms such as “cancer” were being flagged. Fable 5 is included in paid plans through June 22, while less-restricted Mythos 5 remains limited to trusted partners.

@gavinsbakerEvidently prices will go up in about two weeks. Also I preferred Mythos to Fable. Fable makes me think of fabulist, which is not the best association. Excited to try it!
@hosseebHoly shit. Mythos just dropped (commercially restricted release called Fable), and these benchmarks are making every other lab look like amateurs. Really feels like it's Anthropic's world and we're all just living in it. Can't wait to see

@hangsiinWhen Fable 5 is used for frontier LLM development, it does not notify the user and instead limits the model’s capabilities through methods such as prompt modification, steering vectors, and PEFT. Anthropic estimated that this would affect
