OpenAI Files Confidentially for IPO, a Week After Anthropic
OpenAI has confidentially filed a draft S-1 for an initial public offering with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, giving the ChatGPT maker a formal path to the public markets while leaving the timing open. The company said it hasn’t decided when to proceed and may remain private for a while, and the filing came about a week after Anthropic made its own confidential IPO submission.
The parallel filings come as the two frontier AI labs compete more directly for enterprise customers and investor capital. OpenAI has been preparing its biggest ChatGPT overhaul since launch, turning the product into a broader platform for coding tools, AI agents and partner apps, and the Financial Times has reported a listing could value the company at more than $1 trillion. The Information said Anthropic has eclipsed OpenAI in revenue through an enterprise push built around products such as Claude Code and Claude Cowork.
