Nonprofits Accelerate Vaccine Development for Rare Ebola Strain as DR Congo Cases Rise to 282
Several non-profit organizations are intensifying efforts to develop a vaccine for the rare Bundibugyo strain behind the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, after Congo said confirmed cases rose to 282.
The push comes as World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus toured a newly opened treatment facility in Bunia, where five patients have recovered. Health officials say the virus is circulating undetected in eastern Congo, complicating efforts to contain the outbreak and determine its full scale.
