Nvidia-Backed Robotics Startup Generalist AI Raises $400 Million at $2 Billion Valuation

Generalist AI, a robotics startup developing AI models for robots to perform physical tasks, raised $400 million in a funding round led by Radical Ventures that valued the company at $2 billion. Investors included Nvidia, Bezos Expeditions, 8VC, Union Square Ventures and Hanabi Capital.

Founded in 2024 by former Google DeepMind and Boston Dynamics researchers, Generalist released its GEN-1 model in April to help robots complete short tasks lasting up to about one minute, such as tying zip ties and arranging potato chips. The company says it has customers using the model, though it has not named them, and that data remains the main bottleneck in robotics AI; to address that, it says it distributed thousands of robot-hand-like grippers and collected more than 500,000 hours of real-world data.
