TSMC Warns AI Demand Will Outstrip Chip Supply for Years, Keeps 30%-Plus Growth Forecast

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., the world’s largest contract chipmaker, said AI demand has accelerated faster than the industry expected, leaving shortages everywhere across the supply chain and keeping chip supply short of AI-driven demand for years. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer C.C. Wei reiterated a forecast for 30%-plus revenue growth this year, saying adoption is spreading across consumer, enterprise and sovereign AI and that TSMC is expanding capacity as quickly as it can.

Wei said TSMC’s visibility extends to 2030, but it will take a very long time for fabs in the US to fully satisfy American customers. The company has bought ASML’s High-NA EUV lithography tools, though they haven’t been deployed for mass production because of cost, and it expects volumes from its CoPoS advanced-packaging pilot line to become significant in roughly two to three years.
