Iranian Missiles Disabled Main U.S. Air War Command Center at Al Udeid, Report Reveals
Air & Space Forces Magazine reported, citing a senior U.S. official and others informed about the attack, that multiple Iranian ballistic missiles struck the U.S. Air Force's Combined Air Operations Center at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar in the early weeks of the conflict, severely damaging the facility and rendering it inoperable. No personnel were injured because the center was not in use at the time, and a secondary facility at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina took over directing the air campaign, according to the report.
The command center had coordinated U.S. air campaigns in the Middle East for more than two decades. The disclosure adds a concrete consequence to the exchange in which Iran launched missiles and drones toward Kuwait, Bahrain and civilian mariners and the U.S. reported self-defense strikes on Qeshm Island; at the time, U.S. Central Command said Iranian attacks on American forces had failed and rejected IRGC claims that it had struck the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and a U.S. air base.
