Senators Warren and Kim criticized Trump for allowing AI chips to be sent to overseas units of Chinese firms, adding pressure to US rules on advanced semiconductor sales as procurement records showed at least seven Chinese universities that support the country’s armed forces and defense industry are seeking access to Nvidia Corp.’s H200 chips. The H200 is the most powerful AI processor the US has allowed to be sold in China.
The universities identified in the records include Beihang University and Northwestern Polytechnical University, two of China’s “Seven Sons of National Defense.” The review also found 25 more Chinese universities that work with the military are already using or seeking Nvidia chips, showing demand for advanced US semiconductors extends beyond the seven institutions seeking H200 access.
