U.S. House Passes Ukraine Aid Bill With $8 Billion in Loans, 500% Tariffs on Russian Goods
The U.S. House approved the Ukraine Support Act, a package that combines more than $1 billion in security assistance for Ukraine with up to $8 billion in defense loans and tariffs of as much as 500% on Russian goods. Reports on the vote said 18 Republicans joined Democrats to pass the measure, which also imposes tougher sanctions on Russia.
The bill still must clear the Republican-controlled Senate, where its prospects are uncertain. The legislation would also extend U.S. military assistance for Ukraine through 2027 and reached the House floor through a discharge petition despite Speaker Mike Johnson’s opposition, underscoring a split among House Republicans over continued support for Kyiv.
