AI Server Maker Wiwynn Plans at Least 3 More US Plants as Component Shortages Worsen
AI server maker Wiwynn plans to build at least three more plants in the US after demand at its new American facilities ran “beyond anything we imagined,” according to a media report citing Chair Emily Hong. Customers asked for more capacity even after the company expanded in Texas, while its Mexico plant remained fully utilized, and capital spending this year is expected to be significantly higher than last year’s NT$13 billion.
The expansion comes as constraints on AI-server production widen from power and labor to a broader components crunch. Hong said the industry lacks power, people, capital and, most of all, materials, with bottlenecks spanning CPUs, memory, storage, high-end PCBs, power-management chips and MLCCs. Wiwynn is carrying a record NT$230 billion of inventory as suppliers try to ensure manufacturers have complete sets of parts before shipments.
