Alibaba launched Qianwen Cloud last week, a platform offering APIs for more than 150 models, including competitors such as DeepSeek, Kimi and GLM. The service is positioned as more than a storefront for Alibaba’s own Qwen models.

The launch pairs Alibaba’s push to integrate more of the AI stack — from proprietary chips to finished tokens — with a model layer that remains open. That approach broadens the range of models available through Alibaba’s cloud platform as it expands its AI infrastructure and services.
