Nvidia to Spend $150 Billion a Year on Taiwan Supply Chain, Up From $100 Billion
Nvidia will soon spend about $150 billion a year buying supplies from Taiwan, Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang said during a visit to the island, up from about $100 billion now and $10 billion to $15 billion four to five years ago. Huang described Taiwan as "the epicenter of the AI revolution," citing its role in chips, packaging, system assembly and AI supercomputer production.
The spending increase highlights Taiwan's central role in Nvidia's next wave of AI hardware. Huang said each Vera Rubin system contains almost 2 million parts and is built with 150 ecosystem partners in Taiwan, and that the second half of this year will be busy with Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin. Nvidia has also outlined plans for a Taiwan headquarters by 2030 as a 4,000-employee research and development hub, with deeper ties to TSMC, Foxconn, Wistron and Quanta.
