Anthropic has overtaken OpenAI on revenue after growing fivefold in the first five months of 2026, reaching an annualized run rate of nearly $45 billion and briefly turning profitable, according to The Information. OpenAI is estimated at about $30 billion in annualized revenue and remains deeply in the red, putting Anthropic at least 35% behind its rival on that measure.
The change reverses the companies’ positions from the end of last year and reflects strong demand for Anthropic’s AI coding and enterprise tools, the publication said. The gap could complicate OpenAI’s IPO plans if Anthropic reaches public investors first.
