Home Depot Comparable Sales Rise 0.6%, Miss Estimates as Americans Pull Back on Large Remodels
Home Depot said Americans were scaling back large remodeling projects as mounting economic uncertainty, high borrowing costs and a subdued housing market strained by affordability pressures. Sales at stores open at least a year rose 0.6% in the first quarter, missing expectations as muted housing demand limited spending on home-improvement projects.
The retailer reported first-quarter revenue of $41.77 billion and adjusted earnings per share of $3.43, both slightly ahead of estimates. It said results were in line with expectations and that underlying demand was relatively similar to what it saw throughout fiscal 2025, despite greater consumer uncertainty and housing affordability pressure.
