IRGC Says 35 Ships Pass Hormuz With Permission, Up From 31 a Day Earlier
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said 35 vessels, including oil tankers, container ships and other commercial ships, transited the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours with prior permission and under its coordination and security support. That was up from 31 vessels the force said had crossed in the previous 24-hour period, indicating commercial traffic is still moving through the chokepoint under Tehran's clearance system.
The latest count follows Iran's discussions with Oman on a permanent toll system that an Iranian envoy said would formalize Tehran's control of maritime traffic through Hormuz. The plan has drawn objections from the US and the UAE, with Rubio saying tolls would make a diplomatic deal unfeasible and UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash calling attempts to control the strait or infringe on Emirati maritime sovereignty "pipe dreams."
