CFTC Probes $800 Million Oil Trades Before Trump Delayed Iran Strikes
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission is reviewing a burst of oil futures trading that took place shortly before President Donald Trump said in a March 23 social-media post that he was delaying planned strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, according to the Wall Street Journal. The report said more than $800 million of oil futures changed hands just before the announcement.
The Journal said the regulator is interested in at least three firms as part of the probe, including Qube Research & Technologies, Forza Fund and Totsa. Some firms attributed the trades to a news headline that appeared before Trump’s post, the newspaper said.
