Trump Administration Awards $2 Billion to 9 Quantum Firms, Takes Equity Stakes
The Trump administration is awarding $2 billion in CHIPS Act grants to nine quantum-computing firms, with the US government taking minority equity stakes, the Commerce Department said. IBM is set to receive about $1 billion of the package, while GlobalFoundries is slated for $375 million.
Other recipients include D-Wave, Rigetti, Infleqtion, Atom Computing, PsiQuantum, Quantinuum and Diraq, and the deals still need to be completed. Quantum-related shares rose in premarket trading after the report, with D-Wave Quantum up 11.4%, Rigetti Computing up 14.4% and Infleqtion up 20%.
