UK Allows Diesel, Jet Fuel Imports Made From Russian Crude, Apologizes Over Sanctions Handling
The UK has issued a permit allowing imports of diesel and jet fuel made from Russian crude oil and refined in third countries, easing its oil-products sanctions as fuel prices climb and the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz strains supplies. The license took effect on May 20, and the government has apologized for its handling of the sanctions.
The carve-out applies to fuel processed outside Russia, including in countries such as India and Turkey. The UK is the world’s third-largest jet fuel consumer and the world’s largest jet importer, leaving it particularly exposed to shortages and higher costs.
