Foreign Investors Sell $48 Billion of South Korean Stocks at Record Pace
Foreign investors have sold a net roughly $48 billion of South Korean equities so far in 2026, putting the market on course for the largest annual outflow on record. Net sales have reached about $11.5 billion in May alone, leaving the month on track for the third-largest monthly outflow after heavy selling in February and March.
The withdrawals have continued even as the Kospi has surged 87% this year, making it the strongest-performing major global market tracked by Bloomberg. South Korea’s equity benchmark nonetheless slumped as global funds kept trimming positions in one of the year’s hottest stock markets.
