Klarna Returns to Profit as Q1 Revenue Rises 44% Above Estimates
Klarna reported first-quarter revenue of about $1.01 billion, up 44% from a year earlier and above estimates, as gross merchandise volume rose 33% to $33.7 billion. The company posted a $1 million profit, compared with a $99 million loss a year earlier, while adjusted operating profit increased to $68 million from $3 million. Active consumers reached 119 million and transaction margin dollars rose 44% to $389 million.
For the second quarter, Klarna forecast revenue of $960 million to $1.0 billion, gross merchandise volume of $35.5 billion to $36.5 billion and adjusted operating income of $30 million to $50 million. The company said it had more than 1 million merchants, up 49% from a year earlier.
