OpenAI Lets Employees Sell $6.6 Billion of Shares at $400 Billion Valuation

The Wall Street Journal reported that OpenAI let more than 600 current and former employees sell shares in October 2025 at an approximately $400 billion valuation, generating about $6.6 billion in liquidity.

Employees had waited two years to sell their shares, and OpenAI allowed sales of up to $30 million per person in the secondary sale. Seventy-five employees sold stakes at that maximum, according to the report.
